TCPalm Elections FAQ :
1. How did the newspaper determine initial issue questions to ask the candidates?
Questions were submitted by staff and readers, who were solicited through a column, frequent reminders on the Opinion page and via e-mail.
2. How do I submit a question to be answered by a slate of candidates?
Click on a race on this page and follow the links to see the questions. Read the questions that already have been posed to candidates. Are there issues that have not been addressed? If so, go to the race page, then click on the link that allows you to ask a question. The editorial staff will review the question and determine whether to pose it to the candidates. If you want to know why your question was not asked, e-mail Laurence.reisman@scripps.com .
3. How do I submit a question to be answered by one candidate?
Go to one of the comment areas and type it in. Hopefully a candidate will answer shortly after you post your question.
4. How can candidates enter their information?
Each candidate was mailed or e-mailed information on how to post. Candidates, not the newspaper, are required to post the information. If candidates have technical problems posting, they should send an e-mail to laurence.reisman@scripps.com or call 772-978-2223 or 772-221-4238.
5. Why is it important that candidates fill out their biographies and answers?
First, it is important that the public have an opportunity to vet this information before going to the polls.
Second, the editorial board of Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers hopes to use the answers as part of its endorsement process. In late summer and fall, the nine-member board will make recommendations on the best candidates. These will be posted on TCPalm.com.
6. Why are some candidates’ profiles and answers blank?
It could be that they are having technical problems or are fearful of the Web. Or, it could be that they do not want to answer the questions or share their views with the public. If you’re interested in seeing views of a candidate who has not posted, send him an e-mail or letter via the address provided on his or her profile.
